There was a particular moment when something shifted. I had been creating for years, designing, retouching, crafting identities for others, but I hadn't yet found a space that was entirely my own. A space where I could set down the briefs and the brand guidelines and simply say: this is what I feel.
One day, I decided to start something different. I began making tutorials, not only to share technical knowledge, but to tell stories through the process of making. And the character who appeared, almost instinctively, was a little boy.
He isn't anyone in particular. He is, at different times, me, or a version of me I once was, or perhaps still am in quiet moments. He carries the things I find difficult to say outright: the nostalgia, the small griefs, the flashes of wonder, the heaviness of certain afternoons. He walks through scenes that come from my own life, or from thoughts that have followed me for a long time without permission.
Sometimes the images are straightforward in their feeling. A boy standing at a window in the rain. A boy holding something too fragile. Sometimes they are more oblique, a mood, an atmosphere, a colour that carries more weight than any caption ever could.
This series is an ongoing conversation between my craft and my interior life. Each piece begins with a feeling rather than a concept, and the technical work, the composition, the light, the texture, becomes the language through which that feeling finds its form.
In time, the photomontages gave rise to something further. From them grew a series of hand-sketched drawings and illustrations — quieter in medium, but carrying the same feeling. For a period, these works were available to purchase, finding their way into the homes of people who, perhaps, recognised something of themselves in that small, wandering figure.
